PopUp Lab by Futurium & STATE
For 5 consecutive days the run-up to STATE Festival 2016, an abandoned shop at Bülowstr. 90 in Berlin-Schöneberg was turned into a pulsating public laboratory: The PopUpLab. The PopUpLab presented an exciting mix of workshops, lectures and performances with local and international artists, scientists and creatives with the aim of deeper exploration of the festival theme and creating an area for interdisciplinary collaboration. In the name of Berlin’s new Futurium Science and Futurium, individuals from independent and professional collectives, institutions and companies were invited to participate and laid the foundation for future cooperation. In addition to the involvement of internationally renowned artists, academics and academic institutions, the focus was on young and emerging actors at the interface between science, art and technology.
In one or two-day workshops, the participants had the opportunity to explore the presented topics and concepts together, to get to know each other and to form new networks. Among the highlights of the PopUpLab were the collaboration with the renowned US artist and experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats as well as the collaboration with the Royal College of Art, London. All workshops were free of charge after registration. Selected results of the workshops were shown at the main festival to a larger audience.
